In which I call bullshit on the MPAA
I happened upon an article via The Geek Media regarding the new Kevin Smith movie, Zack and Miri Make A Porno. Or rather, the poster for said film, which the MPAA declared it too obscene for public consumption. Well now, I am intrigued! Let’s see this heinous debauchery!

Um. Ok. My poor virgin eyes.
Alright, so it’s silly, but it’s not surprising. The MPAA is a repressed collection of hand-wringing puritans that work themselves into a frenzy over the if they see so much as the edge of an areola. Remember, this is the same group of folks for whom any other position than missionary equals an R rating (we are of course talking about straight positioning here, as the slightest hint of the gay makes it adult fare).
However, something about this otherwise unremarkable piece of news was nagging at my subconscious. It was while I was brushing my teeth this morning that I realized just how full of bullshit the MPAA is.

Oh yeah, remember this? I saw it displayed at the AMC Van Ness 14. Right down the hall from the overpriced popcorn and Raisinets. Kitty-corner from the arcade where all the kids hang out.
So wait a tic. The implication of oral sex is clearly ok. The implication of naked oral sex is clearly also ok. So why is the implication of oral sex on two clothed people…oh. It’s because it’s oral sex performed on a woman, isn’t it?
Bullshit, MPAA. Bullshit.

Good lord, god forbid women get pleasured too.
Fuck the MPAA! …as always.

I think it is Seth Rogan’s face that isn’t ok in the poster.
Also it is probably the combination of the title and the picture that caused it to get the censor hammer.

@Mike (dark hair)
I’d buy that if the MPAA didn’t have a long, sordid history of treating female nudity and sexuality by entirely different standards than they do for males. A naked man is funny. A naked woman is obscene. Maybe it’s just my vagina talking, but I take offense to that.

God, it’d be horrifying if your vagina were talking.
Beyond that, I think that this whole business grows out of a somewhat different brand of misogyny. It isn’t that a woman’s nudity is necessarily rude. It’s more that only one man should ever be allowed to see a woman in the nude.
The type of Unkept/Unkempt woman who lets multiple partners see her nude (and more, we assume, but we’re being British about it here) is an unsavory woman who has obviously made mistakes in life.
And Mistakes are really God’s way of telling you that you’re going to Hell because you were born base and terrible.
Either that, or I need to stop posting after class.

I am going to disagree with you on that on Becky. Female nudity is much more prevalent in movies of the last 20 years(probably because hollywood is run by a gang who’s leader is Frank Miller). And male nudity is totally avoided, probably for the same reason. I think any form of male nudity would get you a much stricter rating that female nudity. I will agree male nudity is more often used for comedy while female nudity is you for the SEXYOMG13YEAROLD BOY factor but i dont think the MMPA is overly sensitive to female nudity if anything its the other way around, again because of Frank Miller and his ilk.
