Beards

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , on February 27, 2008 by Rudraigh Quattrin

Why the hell don’t super heroes have full beards? Is there something in our culture against this, now? Can only the blond-haired, blue-eyed, and clean-shaven be extolled in contemporary American culture? Is this what we have come to?

All Nazi allusions aside, this is something I’ve been wondering about for a while. Very few super heroes have beards, and most who do only have a goatee. This makes it rather difficult for me if I ever want to dress up for a comic convention.

What news from the Frozen North?

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , on February 23, 2008 by Becky Chambers

Yes, rejoice, for I have returned from my third trek to the land of the Vikings. I am jet-lagged and rather wishing I had considerably more time to spend there, but here I am back across the pond, safe and sound. There is a bounty of things to report: bleak and mysterious pictures of my humble adventures, reviews of books I read while flying through clouds, and the mythological horror of traditional Icelandic cuisine. All this and more to come swiftly hence!

I’m the next DC villain

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , on February 22, 2008 by Rudraigh Quattrin

So, the whole Green Lantern scene has exploded into a literal rainbow of emotion-driven superpowers.  Seriously.  R-O-Y-G-B-I-V all over.  Anyway, I’m a nerd, and I can see DC making a villain who commands more than one ring/emotion.  Hate and Fear would make a good combo.

Weekly Comic Review ~ Rud Edition

There wasn’t a lot waiting for me at the Comic shop this week. Only about an hour and a half’s worth of reading. However, that hour and a half was thoroughly enjoyable. Cable and Deadpool had their final issue, the Red Hulk returned to ruin Tony Stark’s new toy, Arcee explained why there is suddenly gender in a species of giant robots, and Conan killed people.

So what if I’m a Toy Nerd?

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , on February 20, 2008 by Rudraigh Quattrin

Upcoming toys! I’m excited.

Ninja Turtles, Indiana Jones, and Transformers. What more could a boy from the 80′s want?

Oh, right. Ghostbusters. But, hey! It’ll be a game soon.

Maybe some He-Man.

What I’m Geeking Out About This Week

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , on February 15, 2008 by Rudraigh Quattrin

Becky’s not here, but I’m still excited about crap.

1. Space – It’s fucking huge and filled with awesome-sounding things, like “solar wind”.

2. The Russians, especially their space plans – Apparently, they plan on mining Helium-3 from the moon by 2020.  Not a penal colony on Venus, but it’s a start.

3. Lost Odyssey – I’ve been anticipating this game to the degree of buying it, even though I don’t own an X-Box.  Luckily, I have friends with X-Boxes and huge TVs.  Final Fantasy returns to its glory in this not-a-Final-Fantasy game.

4. The Sinestro Corps – A good copy of their ring is now in production and on its way to my hand.

5. Water Pressure – Bloody amazing stuff, that.  It returned my ability to hear.

6. Princess Bride Toys – zomgTheManInBlackzomg

In solidarity, yo.

Just popping up very quickly from Iceland to share an exciting thing. So the writer’s strike is now over, huzzah, so perhaps our contribution to the 1st Annual United Hollywood Short Film contest is a little anti-climactic. However, it doesn’t make it any less awesome. We hope you enjoy the pants off of it.

In the Vein of Romance

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , on February 14, 2008 by Rudraigh Quattrin

National Entertainment Collectables Association has recently announced their forthcoming production of toys and statuettes related to Rob Reiner’s classic The Princess Bride.  Their first figure to come out will be the Dread Pirate Roberts.

As I grew up watching this movie, with Wesley as a role model, I am waiting the rest of the line with great anticipation.

Galactic Expansion

On this day, in 1961, the USSR launched the world’s first planetary probe, the Venera-1, toward Venus.  This was a truly remarkable event in our history as a species, for many reasons.  Firstly, this was the first time we were able to send anything toward another world and receive information back.

We gathered knowledge about two of the greatest comic/shlock sci-fi forces ever: solar wind and cosmic radiation.  Furthermore, the Venera-1 was the first space probe with the ability to correct its trajectory, mid-course.
